Never go for economy on a base paint unless you know from experience that it will work with the glaze you use, or else you will find yourself needing to apply a clear barrier coat between the base paint and your glaze, thus increasing the cost of the job anyway. After the patches are dried and sanded smooth, you should spot prime them. I know from experience and many, many 8'x4' paintings. Because of this stain resistance, a water-based glaze will not penetrate the base paint film and it will give you the best "open time" the glaze can offer.
